Disaster Risk Management Plan of Meghri Community was discussed with the Meghri community administration and other stakeholders
On May 6–7, a two-day training on “Disaster Risk Management at the Community Level” was conducted in Meghri community. The training was organized within the framework of the project “Strengthening Community Resilience and Disaster Preparedness for Displaced Populations in Armenia”.
The training brought together members of the Community Disaster Risk Management Council and representatives from various institutions, including the Syunik Regional Rescue Department, Meghri Municipality, community kindergartens, the Unified Social Service Regional Center of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, and other local organizations.
During the training, participants were introduced to the basics of disaster risk management, community-level disaster risk planning processes, and the key features of emergency management. They also learned about mechanisms for receiving, unloading, and distributing humanitarian assistance.
An important part of the training included practical and group exercises, during which participants discussed hazards affecting the community, possible risk reduction measures, and the response actions of host communities in the context of receiving displaced or evacuated populations.
The training was delivered by experts Guram Matiashvili and Vahan Harutyunyan, ensuring both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, as well as active participant engagement.
At the end of the training, participants discussed the application of the acquired knowledge at the community level, emphasizing the importance of strengthening preparedness and resilience.
The project is implemented with the financial support of the EU Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), and through the joint efforts of UNHCR, World Vision Armenia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs Rescue Service, the Disaster Risk Reduction National Platform Foundation, HEKS/EPER, the Armenian Association of Social Workers, and partner communities.
